PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

5. DRAIN MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL

(a) Remove the manual transmission filler plug and gasket.

(b) Loosen the drain plug 6 to 7 turns and wait until the manual transaxle oil is completely drained out.

NOTICE:

When removing the drain plug, do not loosen the drain plug excessively, as loosening it more than 9 turns can cause the drain plug to detach and manual transaxle oil to splash onto the crossmember or other parts.

In order to prevent manual transaxle oil from splashing onto the crossmember, the drain plug has a mechanism that allows the manual transaxle oil to drain out gradually after 6 to 7 loosening cycles.

(c) Wait until the manual transaxle oil flow slows and only drops come out, and then remove the drain plug and gasket.

(d) Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

Torque:

39.2 N·m {400 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}

NOTICE:

The gasket must be replaced with a new one, as this will lead to manual transaxle oil leaks if it is not changed.

6. ADD MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL

(a) Add manual transaxle oil until the oil level is between 0 and 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the manual transmission filler plug opening.

Manual Transaxle Oil:

Toyota Genuine Manual Transmission Gear Oil "LV GL-4 and SAE 75W" or "API GL-4 and SAE 75W"

Standard Capacity:

w/ LSD

2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts)

w/o LSD

2.1 liters (2.2 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts)

NOTICE:

Using manual transaxle oil other than the specified oil may cause abnormal noise or vibration, or damage the transfer of your vehicle.

(b) Install a new gasket and the manual transmission filler plug.

Torque:

39.2 N·m {400 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}

NOTICE:

  • When adding manual transaxle oil, make sure that the vehicle is level.
  • An excessively large or small amount of manual transaxle oil may cause problems.
  • After adding manual transaxle oil, drive the vehicle and recheck the oil level.
