Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor - Manifold Absolute Pressure Correlation

The difference between the pressure of the canister pressure sensor (Vapor Pressure Pump*) and manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP*) is higher than 7.22 kPa (1.04 psi) (2 trip detection logic).

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The pressure of the canister pressure sensor and manifold absolute pressure sensor is monitored 50 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off. If there is a difference in the pressures, the ECM illuminates the MIL and stores this DTC.

HINT:

Correct judgment may not be possible when the altitude is 4000 m (13120 ft.) or more.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  3. Turn the Techstream on.
  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) [A].
  5. Start the engine and idle for 10 seconds [B].
  6. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  7. Leave the ignition switch off for 55 minutes [C].
  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  9. Turn the Techstream on.
  10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [D].
  11. Read the pending DTCs.

    HINT:

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  12. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
  13. Input the DTC: P106A.
  14. Check the DTC judgment result.

When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P106A)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

(e) Read the DTCs.

(e) Compare the Vapor Pressure Pump and MAP data from the Data List with the current atmospheric pressure*.

HINT:

  • *: Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa(abs) (14 psi(abs)) at sea level. The atmospheric pressure decreases by approximately 1 kPa (0.14 psi) for every 100 m of elevation increase. Atmospheric pressure is also affected by weather conditions.
  • If you do not know the atmospheric pressure, refer to the Vapor Pressure Pump value of other vehicles in the workshop and check the difference in pressure.
