DTC

P0013

Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1)

DESCRIPTION

The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system consists of the ECM, camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly.

The VVT system controls the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) to operate the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly and optimize the intake valve timing according to driving conditions. This control is performed based on the air flow volume, throttle position, engine coolant temperature, etc. Based on signals from each sensor, the ECM controls the position of the camshaft timing control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) to change the relative position of the camshaft, enhance the engine torque and fuel economy and decrease the exhaust gas emissions. Using signals from the cam position sensor, the ECM detects the actual valve timing and performs feedback control to optimize the valve timing.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC is designed to detect an open or short in the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly duty-cycle is excessively high or low while the ignition switch is ON or the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store this DTC.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  3. Turn the Techstream on.
  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
  5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  7. Turn the Techstream on.
  8. Wait 5 seconds.
  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    HINT:

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
  12. Input the DTC: P0013.
  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

HINT:

Read Freeze Frame Data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

1.

CLEAR DTC

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Clear the DTC after recording the Freeze Frame Data and DTC.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs

(e) Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
