Engine Oil Temperature Sensor (Range/Performance)
|
Ether of the following conditions is met (2 trip detection logic):
-
The difference between the engine oil temperature and engine coolant temperature is 25°C (45°F) or higher when 7 hours or more have elapsed after the engine was stopped.
-
The difference between the engine oil temperature and intake air temperature is 25°C (45°F) or higher when 7 hours or more have elapsed after the engine was stopped.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM uses the engine oil temperature sensor voltage to calculate the engine oil temperature. If the ECM detects that the output from the sensor deviates from the standard range, the ECM determines that the engine oil temperature sensor has malfunctioned and stores DTC P0196.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
-
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
-
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
-
Turn the Techstream on.
-
Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
-
Turn the ignition switch off.
-
With the engine stopped, leave the vehicle as is for 7 hours or more [A].
-
Turn the ignition switch to ON [B].
-
Turn the Techstream on.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Coolant Temp.
-
Check that the coolant temperature is -10°C (14°F or higher).
-
Start the engine [C].
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [D].
-
Read the pending DTCs.
HINT:
-
If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
-
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
-
Input the DTC: P0196.
-
Check the DTC judgment result.

Wait 3 minutes or more.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [G].
-
Read the pending DTCs.
HINT:
-
If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
-
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
-
Check the DTC judgment result again.
HINT:
-
If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
-
If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
-
If the judgment result is INCOMPLETE or N/A and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs.

HINT:
-
If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
-
If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
HINT:
Read Freeze Frame Data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as Freeze Frame Data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, Freeze Frame Data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1.
|
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0196)
|
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(e) Read the DTCs.
Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes
