Front Window Fogging

DESCRIPTION

If the front glass frequently fogs up when the air conditioning system is operated, the following causes are possible.

  • Compressor with motor assembly malfunction
  • Lack of refrigerant gas
  • Cooler expansion valve (opened too far)
  • Mode damper servo malfunction
  • Mode damper and link operation (jamming)

PROCEDURE

1.

CHECK REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON (READY).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Utility / Refrigerant Gas Volume Check.

Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Utility

(e) Prepare the vehicle according to the table below.

HINT:

  • Refer to the Techstream operator's manual for further details.
  • A message indicating a refrigerant shortage is displayed on the Techstream and the air conditioning system turns off if the amount of refrigerant in the system is insufficient.
  • DTCs are not stored when performing the refrigerant shortage check using the Techstream.
  • *1: This inspection can be judged correctly only if the ambient temperature is within a range of 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F). Therefore, postpone the test if the temperature is low.
  • *2: This inspection can be judged correctly only if the air inlet temperature is within a range of 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F). Therefore, postpone the test if the temperature is out of range.

CHECK OPERATION

(a) When the MODE switch on the air conditioning control assembly is pushed, check that the air conditioning system changes DEF mode according to the switch operation.
