Title: PARKING BRAKE: ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM (w/o Vacuum Brake Booster): PRECAUTION; 2019 MY RAV4 RAV4 HV [11/2018 - 02/2019]

PRECAUTION

TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS

(a) Unless otherwise stated, ensure that the power switch is off when removing or installing parts.

(b) The electric parking brake may still operate for 20 seconds* after the power switch turned off.

*: The electric parking brake may still operate up to 60 minutes depending on the state of the vehicle after the power switch turned off, so be sure to perform the work procedures with the vehicle on a level surface.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

(a) When tilting the vehicle to perform work after parking the vehicle on a level surface, since a sufficient amount of braking force may not be generated, make sure to pull the electric parking brake switch 2 times (2 lock operations).

HINT:

  • The electric parking brake determines the amount of force used to operate the parking brake according to the tilt angle detected by the deceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly).
  • When the electric parking brake switch is pulled 2 times (2 lock operations), the system uses the maximum amount of braking force.

(b) After replacing the parking brake ECU assembly, the parking brake indicator light blinks when the power switch is turned on (IG) for the first time. To turn off the parking brake indicator light after replacing the parking brake ECU assembly, operate the electric parking brake switch (integration control and panel assembly) to the lock side then to the release side.
