REMOVAL
PROCEDURE
1. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

3. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH

6. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
7. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER

8. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for AWD)

9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH
(a) Remove the bolt, 2 clips and front fender apron seal LH from the vehicle.

10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, clip and front fender apron seal RH from the vehicle.

11. DRAIN ENGINE OIL

13. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (for 2WD)

16. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK

17. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

18. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Hold the rear of the V-bank cover sub-assembly and raise it to disengage the 2 rear clips.

(b) Raise the V-bank cover sub-assembly to disengage the 2 front clips and remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
NOTICE:
Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the V-bank cover sub-assembly to break.
19. REMOVE BATTERY
(a) Disconnect the positive (+) cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.
(b) Loosen the nut, and remove the bolt from the battery clamp.

(c) Remove the battery from the battery tray.
(d) Remove the battery tray from the vehicle.
20. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET ASSEMBLY
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner inlet assembly from the vehicle.
21. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE

22. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly from the air cleaner case sub-assembly.

23. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner case sub-assembly from the air cleaner bracket.
|
|
24. REMOVE AIR CLEANER BRACKET
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and air cleaner bracket from the vehicle.
25. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE
(a) Remove the relay block cover from the engine room relay block.
(b) Disconnect the 3 connectors.
|
|
(c) Remove the nut from the engine room relay block.
(d) Remove the bolt and disconnect the engine wire from the vehicle.
(e) Disengage the 2 clamps to disconnect the engine wire from the air cleaner support bracket and vehicle.
(f) Disengage the 2 claws to disconnect the engine wire from the engine room relay block.
(g) Pull up the lever to disconnect the ECM connector.

(h) Disengage the 2 clamps to disconnect the engine wire from the vehicle.
26. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

27. DISCONNECT FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the purge VSV (purge valve) connector.

(b) Slide the clip and disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose assembly from the purge VSV (purge valve).
28. DISCONNECT NO. 1 FUEL HOSE
(a) Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp from the No. 1 fuel pipe clamp.

(b) Remove the No. 1 fuel pipe clamp from the fuel tube connector.
|
|
(c) Disconnect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly (for Direct Injection).
(1) Disconnect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pipe.

(d) Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Port Injection).
(1) Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pipe.

29. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE
(a) Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose from the water outlet.

|
30. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE
(a) Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the water inlet.
|
|
31. DISCONNECT WATER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(b) Slide the clip and disconnect the water hose sub-assembly from the water outlet.
(d) Slide the clip and disconnect the water hose sub-assembly from the No. 2 water hose sub-assembly.
32. DISCONNECT NO. 2 WATER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 water hose sub-assembly from the water outlet.

33. DISCONNECT UNION TO CHECK VALVE HOSE
(a) Slide the clip and disconnect the union to check valve hose from the brake booster assembly.

34. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL THERMOSTAT

35. REMOVE DUTY VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE

36. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING STAY RH
(a) Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and No. 2 engine mounting stay RH from the front No. 1 engine mounting bracket RH.

37. REMOVE ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD BRACKET
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and engine moving control rod bracket together engine moving control rod from the front No. 1 engine mounting bracket RH and vehicle.

|
38. REMOVE ENGINE MOVING CONTROL ROD
HINT:
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine moving control rod is necessary.
(a) Remove the bolt and engine moving control rod from the engine mounting bracket.
39. DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and flywheel housing under cover.

61. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT
(a) Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.

(b) Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter setting bolts.
|
|
62. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE
(a) Place height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, set an engine lifter underneath the engine assembly with transaxle.
NOTICE:
-
Install a height adjustment attachment and plate lift attachment onto the engine assembly with transaxle.
-
Securely support the engine assembly to prevent it from turning upside down until it is secured to an engine stand.
-
Do not perform any procedure while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
(b) Remove the 2 clamps and separate the front fender liner LH and RH from the frame side rail plates LH and RH.
(c) Remove the 6 bolts, 2 nuts and frame side rail plates LH and RH.

(d) Remove the 6 bolts, 2 nuts and front suspension member rear braces LH and RH.
(e) Operate the engine lifter, then remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
NOTICE:
-
Make sure that the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.
-
While lowering the engine from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
63. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS
(a) Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.
Torque:
33 N·m {337 kgf·cm, 24 ft·lbf}

(b) Using an engine sling device and engine lifter, secure the engine assembly with transaxle.
NOTICE:
-
Adjust the angle of the sling device carefully to prevent damage or deformation to the engine hangers or engine assembly.
-
Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
64. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT

73. SEPARATE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and separate the front engine mounting insulator assembly from the front engine mounting bracket.

74. SEPARATE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH
(a) Remove the nut and separate the engine mounting insulator LH from the engine mounting bracket LH.

75. SEPARATE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR RH
(a) Remove the nut and separate the engine mounting insulator RH from the engine mounting bracket RH.

|
76. SEPARATE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY (for AWD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear engine mounting insulator assembly from the transfer assembly.
NOTICE:
Do not remove the rear engine mounting insulator assembly through bolts. Doing so makes it difficult to install the rear engine mounting insulator assembly.

77. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH (for AWD)

(a) Remove the bolt, nut and manifold stay from the automatic transaxle assembly and exhaust manifold sab-assembly.

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and transfer stiffener plate RH from the rear engine mounting bracket and transfer assembly.

84. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY TO ENGINE STAND
(a) Install the engine assembly to an engine stand.
85. REMOVE ENGINE HANGERS
(a) Remove the 4 bolts, No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger from the cylinder head sub-assembly and cylinder head LH.
86. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR ASSEMBLY
HINT:
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the front engine mounting insulator assembly is necessary.
(a) Remove the hole plug.
(b) Remove the 3 nuts and front engine mounting insulator assembly from the front frame assembly.

87. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH
HINT:
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator LH is necessary.
(a) Remove the 2 hole plugs.
(b) Remove the 3 nuts and engine mounting insulator LH from the front frame assembly.

88. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR RH
HINT:
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator RH is necessary.
(a) Remove the 2 hole plugs.

(a) Remove the 2 hole plugs.
(b) Remove the 2 nuts and rear engine mounting insulator assembly from the front frame assembly.
