Seat Position Airbag Sensor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The seat position sensor circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and the seat position sensor.

DTC B1653/35 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the seat position sensor circuit.

When one of following conditions is met:

  • The center airbag sensor assembly receives a line short circuit signal, an open circuit signal, a short circuit to ground signal or a short circuit to B+ signal in the seat position sensor circuit for 2 seconds.
  • Seat position sensor malfunction
  • Center airbag sensor assembly malfunction
  • Floor wire
  • Front seat inner belt assembly LH
  • Seat position sensor
  • Center airbag sensor assembly

WIRING DIAGRAM

PROCEDURE

1.

CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the seat position sensor.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG

CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY

OK

2.

CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the seat position sensor.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and seat position sensor side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

CHECK SEAT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - SEAT POSITION SENSOR)

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

(d) Turn the ignition switch off.

(e) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(f) Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (LSP-) and 9 (LSP+) of connector B.

NOTICE:

Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(g) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

CHECK SEAT POSITION SENSOR

(a) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly and the seat position sensor.

(b) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

OK:

DTC B1653/35 is not output.

REPLACE SEAT POSITION SENSOR

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Replace the seat position sensor (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SEAT POSITION SENSOR: REMOVAL ).

HINT:

Perform inspection using parts from a normal vehicle if possible.

6.

CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(c) Clear the DTCs (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

(d) Turn the ignition switch off.

(e) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(f) Check for DTCs (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

OK:

DTC B1653/35 is not output.
