Title: SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: INSTALLATION; 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]

INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (See page 2016 - 2020 MY Sienna [12/2015 -        ]; SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: PRECAUTION ).

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Check that the ignition switch is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Confirm that the front tires face straight forward.

(d) Confirm that the turn signal switch is in the neutral position.

NOTICE:

Perform the operation when the turn signal switch is in the neutral position. Otherwise, the turn signal pin will break.

(e) Engage the 3 claws to install the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.

NOTICE:

When replacing the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with a new one, brake off and remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.

(f) w/ Steering Heater:

(1) Connect the steering heater connector.

(g) Connect the airbag connector.

(h) Connect the connector.

(i) Connect the steering angle sensor connector.

CAUTION:

  • Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.
  • If there is a malfunction in the steering angle sensor, replace the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.

2. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

4. ADJUST SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

HINT:

Perform the following procedure only when reusing the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

(a) Check that the ignition switch is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Check the check window shown in the illustration.

HINT:

When the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly is centered, the connector is at the top and the conditions below can be checked.

  • w/o Steering Heater:

With the steering wheel straight ahead, align the matchmarks to check the colored roller from the check window.

  • w/ Steering Heater:

With the steering wheel straight ahead, align the matchmarks to check the U-turn point of the cable from the check window.
