REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (See page ).

PROCEDURE

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

NOTICE:

When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See page ).

2. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER

(a) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the claw and guide to remove the lower No. 3 steering wheel cover. Text in Illustration *a Protective Tape

3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER

HINT:

Use the same procedure as for the No. 3 side.

4. REMOVE STEERING PAD

(a) Check that the ignition switch is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Push in the 3 snap rings to disengage it from the 3 pins.

NOTICE:

Lightly hold the steering pad to prevent it from falling.

(d) Pull the steering pad toward the rear.

NOTICE:

When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

(e) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, release the 2 locking buttons. Text in Illustration *1 Locking Button *a Protective Tape

(f) Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors.

NOTICE:

When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

(g) Disconnect the horn terminal.
