ADJUSTMENT
PROCEDURE
1. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
(a) Check the brake pedal height.
(1) Turn back the carpet.
(2) Measure the brake pedal height from the floor panel to the bottom edge of the brake pedal pad.

Brake Pedal Height
|
Standard pedal height:
143.5 to 153.5 mm (5.65 to 6.04 in.)
NOTICE:
Do not adjust the pedal height. Doing so by changing the push rod length will structurally change the pedal ratio.
If the pedal height is incorrect, check that there is no damage in the brake pedal, brake pedal lever, brake pedal bracket and floor panel.
Even if there is damage, there is no problem if the reserve distance is within the standard value. If necessary, replace these parts.

|
2. INSPECT AND ADJUST STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
HINT:
If the pedal height is incorrect, inspect and adjust the stop light switch clearance.
(a) Disconnect the connector from the stop light switch.
(b) Turn the stop light switch counterclockwise and remove the stop light switch.
(c) Insert the stop light switch into the adjuster until it just touches the cushion.

HINT:
-
Do not depress the brake pedal.
-
The turning torque for installing the stop light switch is as below.
Torque:
1.5 N·m {15 kgf·cm, 13 in·lbf}
or less
|
|
(e) Inspect the stop light switch clearance.
Stop light switch clearance:
0.5 to 2.6 mm (0.020 to 0.102 in.)
(f) Connect the connector to the stop light switch.
3. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY
(a) Stop the engine and firmly depress the brake pedal several times until no vacuum is left in the booster.
(b) Measure the free play of the brake pedal.
Text in Illustration
Standard pedal free play:
1.0 to 6.0 mm (0.0394 to 0.236 in.)
If the pedal free play is not as specified, inspect the stop light switch clearance. If the pedal free play is as specified, proceed to the Inspect Brake Pedal Reserve Distance procedure.
|
|
4. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL RESERVE DISTANCE
HINT:
Measure the distance at the same point used for the brake pedal height inspection.
(a) Start the engine.
(b) Depress the brake pedal and check the pedal reserve distance.
(1) Depress the brake pedal with a force of 500 N (51 kgf, 112.4 lbf).
(2) Measure the distance between the brake pedal and floor panel.
Standard pedal reserve distance:
More than 60 mm (2.36 in.)
If the distance is not as specified, troubleshoot the brake system (See page
).
