- Valve timing
- Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side of bank 1, 2)
- Oil control valve filter
- Oil pipe
- Camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly (bank 1, 2)
- ECM
DESCRIPTIONRefer to DTC P0013 (See page
MONITOR DESCRIPTIONThe ECM checks valve timing (VVT learning value) on the exhaust side while the engine is running at a low speed, in order to monitor the gap between the current and target valve timing on the exhaust side. The VVT learning value is calculated from the positions of the camshaft and crankshaft. The camshaft will come to the most retarded position when the engine is running at a low speed. If the camshaft position is normal, the VVT learning value should be within the specified range. If the VVT learning value is not within the specified range, the ECM determines that this is a malfunction. MONITOR STRATEGY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINTHINT:
PROCEDURE
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. (b) Turn the ignition switch to ON. (c) Turn the Techstream on. (d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes. (e) Read DTCs. Result
HINT: If any DTCs other than P0017 or P0019 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.
HINT: If the VVT system can be operated through the Active Test, it can be assumed that the VVT system is operating normally. (a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. (b) Start the engine. (c) Turn the Techstream on. (d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2) / VVT Ex Chg Angle #1 or VVT Ex Chg Angle #2. (e) Perform the Active Test. Check that the displacement angle varies. OK: Displacement angle varies.
(a) Check for mechanical malfunctions that affect the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain (
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. (b) Turn the ignition switch to ON. (c) Turn the Techstream on. (d) Clear the DTCs (See page
(e) Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds. (f) Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on. (g) Start the engine and warm it up. (h) Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern. (i) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness. (j) Input the DTC: P0017 or P0019. (k) Check the DTC judgment result. Result
HINT: DTC P0017 or P0019 is output when foreign objects in engine oil are caught in some parts of the system. These codes will remain stored even if the system returns to normal after a short time. These foreign objects may then be captured by the oil filter, thus eliminating the source of the problem.
(a) Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) (See page
(b) Remove the oil control valve filter RH or oil control valve filter LH. (c) Check that the oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged. OK: The oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged.
(a) Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly (bank 1 or bank 2) (See page
HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing gear assembly (See page
