DTC

P0657

Actuator Supply Voltage Circuit / Open

DESCRIPTION

The ECM monitors the output voltage to the throttle actuator. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. The output voltage is usually 0 V when the ignition switch is turned off. If the output voltage is higher than 7 V when the ignition switch is turned off, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC when the ignition switch is turned ON.

NOTICE:

After turning ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (See page 2016 MY Sienna [12/2015 - 08/2016]; INTRODUCTION: REPAIR INSTRUCTION: PRECAUTION ).

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
  3. Clear DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) (See page 2016 MY Sienna [12/2015 - 08/2016]; 2GR-FE (ENGINE CONTROL): SFI SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
  4. Turn the ignition switch off.
  5. Turn the Techstream off.
  6. Disconnect the Techstream.
  7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and wait for 1 minute.
  8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
  9. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  10. Wait 10 seconds or more.
  11. Turn the ignition switch off.
  12. Wait 15 seconds or more.
  13. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  14. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  15. Turn the Techstream on.
  16. Wait 5 seconds or more.
  17. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
  18. Read pending DTCs.

    HINT:

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
  19. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
  20. Input the DTC: P0657.
  21. Check the DTC judgment result.

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL

    • DTC judgment completed
    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE

    • DTC judgment not completed
    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    N/A

    • Unable to perform DTC judgment
    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU's memory limit

    HINT:

If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

  22. If the result is INCOMPLETE or N/A and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs (See page 2016 MY Sienna [12/2015 - 08/2016]; 2GR-FE (ENGINE CONTROL): SFI SYSTEM: DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

    HINT:

    • If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
    • If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
