Description

K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module

The control module monitors several sensors that can detect a collision. When a collision is detected, the control module will trigger certain air bags and seat belt pretensioners, depending on the angle and severity of the impact.

K85 Passenger Presence Module

The passenger presence detection sensor mat in the passenger seat cushion creates a low-level electric field to detect the capacitance of the object on the seat.

Conditions for Running the DTC
  • Ignition=On
  • Ignition Voltage=9 to 16 V
Conditions for Setting the DTCB0081 00

K85 Passenger Presence Module=Component Malfunctions

B0081 3A

K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module=This sub type is used by the control module to indicate a mismatch between the hardware connected to the control module and the hardware expected by the control module.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

Air Bag Malfunction Indicator=On

System State=Disabled

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
  • A current DTC will clear when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  • A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
  • The connector position assurance (CPA) should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. The CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.
  • For safety reasons, a shorting bar in the harness connector short circuits the high and low control circuits when the connector is disconnected.
  • Verify the correct replacement part number.
  • Inspect for the following conditions:Empty Seat
  • Disconnect the battery before replacement of the K85 Passenger Presence Module. This will ensure the proper re-zeroing of the passenger presence module. Refer to: Passenger Presence System Rezeroing
