Circuit/System Description

Under certain vehicle events involving an impact or predicted roll over event of sufficient force, the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module will apply current through the appropriate deployment loops, commanding deployment of the appropriate airbag(s) and/or Pretensioner(s).

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition Voltage=9 to 16 V

Conditions for Setting the DTCB0016 01, B0023 01

Control Circuit=Short to Voltage—For greater than 2 s

B0016 02, B0023 02

Control Circuit=Short to Ground—For greater than 2 s

B0016 04, B0023 04

Control Circuit=Open—For greater than 2 s

B0016 0D, B0023 0D

Resistance=Greater than 4.2 Ω—For greater than 2 s

B0016 0E, B0023 0E

Resistance=Less than 1.4 Ω—For greater than 2 s

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

Air Bag Malfunction Indicator=On

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
  • A current DTC will clear when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  • A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Note:

  • Refer to:SIR Service Precautions
  • Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  • Inspect the terminals of the following components and connectors for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as necessary:
    • F105 Roof Rail Air Bag
    • K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
    • Inline Harness Connector
    • Always test the harness side when circuit testing deployment loops.
    • Never test a component on a deployment loop with the DVOM.
  • The connector position assurance (CPA) should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. On vehicles equipped with shorting bars the CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.
