M96A Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator 1 | An electric DC motor. |
K20 Engine Control Module | The control module contains a microprocessor used to process input data to control outputs. The control module controls a series of actuators to ensure optimal vehicle performance. The control module does this by reading values from a variety of sensors, interprets the data and adjusts the propulsion system actuators accordingly. |

Note:
- On certain applications, the Active Grill Air Shutter Initialization and Control Function are restricted to the current ignition cycle. If the ignition is turned off, the initialization must be performed again.
- In colder climates, ensure the vehicle is warmed to temperatures above 10 °C (50 °F) before proceeding with Active Grill Air Shutter initialization. The Active Grill Air Shutter Position control function must also be performed at temperatures above 10 °C (50 °F).
- To perform the Active Grill Air Shutter Initialization:
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Ambient Air Temperature Sensor—Warmer than 10°C (50°F)
- Perform the scan tool configuration/reset function:Ambient Air Temperature Calculation Reset
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Active Grille Air Shutter Ice Protection Mode=Inactive
- Test drive the vehicle.—Greater than 8 km/h (5 MPH)
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Active Grille Air Shutter Initialization Status=Complete
- Proceed to next step
- Perform the appropriate scan tool control function:Active Grille Air Shutter Position»Command the component to the maximum position/speed&Command the component to the minimum position/speed—Release Control
Verify the scan tool parameter:
- Active Grille Air Shutter Position=Desired Active Grille Air Shutter Position
- Active Grille Air Shutter Serial Communication Status=Okay
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component:M96A Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator 1
Perform the appropriate scan tool control function:Active Grille Air Shutter Position»50%
- Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator Test Status=Okay
- Active Grille Air Shutter Initialization Status=Complete
- Active Grille Air Shutter Serial Communication Status=Okay
- Perform the action while monitoring the parameter:
- Wiggle the harness and connector(s):M96A Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator 1
- Wiggle the harness and connector(s):K20 Engine Control Module
- Wiggle the harness and connector(s):X50A Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
- All OK.
